Zen is a school of
Mahayana Buddhism, a religion free from dogmatic beliefs. The word
"Zen" is derived from the sanskrit word "Dhyana" and points to a process
of concentration through which the mind first becomes still and focused,
and then opens up into awakening. Awakening is to return to the source
of the mind. This mind that we were born with is like a mirror which
reflects everything that is put in front of it without being affected
itself. There are no words that can explain this true mind of ours
but through zazen we can dig down to the bottom of the mind and there
directly touch our essence, our clear and pure Mind that is the source
of all wisdom, love and compassion.
In this our true nature there is no dualism - no "this is mine" and
"that is yours". Harmonizing with this source can sweep away the fundament
to our animosity, hate, fear and greed, the causes of violence and
war in the world.
A warm and compassionte heart, the essence of buddhahood, grows naturally
from this experience. |
